The above graphic from the FAO provides evidence that increases in food production have precipitated increases in population growth.  Yet the view held by the FAO is that food production must be continually increased because of food insecurity, i.e., starvation and malnutrition.  This video of an interview with Daniel Quinn clarifies the realities of world hunger in light of the increases in food production.
